The Last Set at the Rembrandt Room is one
of my favorite albums. I remember what it was
like recording the album in the early '90's. We
didn't have an engineer at the time so I miked up
all the instruments live and ran all the sound
through a mix board directly into the video camera
because we were also video taping. Bob Bachtold
showed up early in the morning with his drums and
Bob Canatsey soon afterwards with his saxophone.
E.J. Gold and I joined them and we played
everything live over the course of the day and
into the night. Tim Elston videotaped the whole
thing and Menlo Macfarlane joined in on congas to
add to the jamboree. The original videotape was
eight hours long. Years later I got the idea to
edit and transfer the sound track to digital
audiotape and together with Oz Fritz, we sequenced
some of my favorite moments to make this CD. This
album is spontaneous, inspired, and very powerful.
May it transport you back in time so you can be
part of this special event.
