E.J. Gold was in the studio recording vocal mic tests with his new Neumann mic. He was singin' the blues. Between tracks he said, "Elwood Strutter Sutton, 1927, crossing Madison and 53rd going west was hit by a truck. He never got to record. He was on his way to a job." Elwood came in on this session which took the form of a mic test, and Gold let the blues come out. Elwood said that "Rebop" was dedicated to his good friend Milt Hinton.

Didge Movements

E.J. Gold

In between playing didge meditations for a live GorebaggTV broadcast, E.J. explained what it does. It provides you with a form of potent prayer as a result of a sound structure, in the form of an air compression that makes sound structure. And that sound structure is resonant with the prayer you intend. That prayer is encapsulated in the didge. These cuts E.J. directed for use with The Movements.

Live at the Philharmonic II

E.J. Gold

CDM034

More orchestral majesty from the creative genius of E.J. Gold. His contemporary symphonic music is given the flair of jazz discordant harmonies - the theme swells, as themes are apt to, and the variations produced by these harmonies augment the sound, creating a space of enormous capacity. It's classical bliss - a Stairway to Heaven, if you will, but only as the Hi-Tech Shaman can offer it.

Mystical Journey of the Hi-Tech Shaman

E.J. Gold

CDM024

Musical portraits: each diffusing extraordinary charm and surprising sophistication. Mystical portraits: each venturing into a musical language created at the moment. Pictured here are the influences of a friend, of a space, of a time, of a place -- of an interest to say it in rhythms, chord clashes and harmonics often ignored. There is no need to indulge in the absurdity of an artificial aestheticism when he can play. Whenever possible, leave them laughing. It will not be long before it becomes familiar, and in it one will find that ideal company that music is, when it echos your own solitude and fills it with its magic song.

This music belongs to the tradition of objective art which includes music, art, and architecture. Objective music opens one to other spaces and takes one there. It can stir, rouse, and enliven, or make one perfectly still and centered. Sooner or later it will take you to a space your deepest self knows as home and in that sense it is profoundly shamanic.

Solstice

James Redfeather

CDM068

"The music of James Redfeather is extremely powerful. It is one of the strongest examples of shapeshifting through sound that I've ever heard. I guarantee that you will be moved through many moods and spaces with the tribal sounds of James Redfeather's debut album, Soltice. Excellent!" -- Jimmi Accardi

CDM004

This 2 CD set features live invocational folksinging from the early 1980's, and captures the mood and flavor of assemblies. Recorded under variable conditions (whenever a tape recorder happened to be present), these selections were originally assembled by Menlo Macfarlane and offered in the first Real World Catalog. The tape was salvaged and remastered in 1992 at The Union Label studios.

The Drone

Accardi/Gold

CDM103

This album has a variety of pieces with drone backgrounds, from East Indian to Persian sounds. The Eastern music is meditative, contemplative, inward-seeking. The drone in its many forms reminds us of the humming of bees, suggesting the mysteries of the Sarmoung Brotherhood and other ancient paths. The haunting chant, the winding notes of the flute and the life-supporting rhythms of the tablas reconstruct the dance of worker bees in their search for nectar to make honey. One's attention dips in and out, but the drone is always there - like the endless flow of Being.

The Kojacks Go To Church

The Kojacks

CDM159

And there was also just a little dash of disbelief about the whole affair. I mean, really now, here were a bunch of fantastic musicians, all dressed in identical bald wigs, sporting the jaunty hats, sunglasses and leisure suits of the television detective, belting out tunes a la Telly with just a touch of Frank thrown in for good measure. This absolutely hysterical parody was performed with excellent musicianship, flair and humor. The Kojacks took the stage, charmed the audience and, all the while, tossed out lollipops to the punks up front. I was lucky enough to see the Kojacks live about a half dozen times and still grin fondly at the memory.

The Kojacks Roast Nilsson

The Kojacks

CDM135

Back in the late 1970s, the Kojak's made a gigantic splash in the underground music scene. They showed up at CBGB one night, played an incredible set of music and word quickly spread. Nobody was really sure who they were or where they came from. The next time they played at this famous club, the place was packed. Everybody who was anybody on the music scene heard about them and wanted to check it out for themselves...

Way Beyond the Veil

E.J. Gold

CDM118

No more bones and rattles! The Hi-Tech shaman uses the tools of modern stock and trade. But some things never change. Still there is the age-old custom of drummers forming a circle around the Shaman as he takes on visions. Moods, thoughts and postures rearrange themselves to provide for shamanic form-changes. All is focused on the one thing, whether it be felt, heard or spoken. It is not of this world but that brings no loss. This round is complete. The circle spirals like a smoke ring to other worlds, 'way beyond the veil', far beyond the beyond, in what can truly and only be appreciated as Shaman ritual.
